A Bitcoin core developer apparently had their PGP key compromised which led to 200+ bitcoins (worth over $3.3 million) being stolen The entire thing just seems a bit off to me...

My first thought was "what date did this happen on?", found out it happened on 31st Dec. Then I thought hm...what's the cutoff date for that US tax-loss harvesting thing? Turns out 31st December is the last day to do tax-loss harvesting stuff...funny that...

Well ok, I'm making an extremely wild assumption here What if this dev isn't even a US citizen, there would be no point in them staging this if they aren't a US citizen Lemme just check....oh they are a US citizen!

It all just seems like a very coincidental incident but it also could have been a mistake on the dev's part The wallets the funds were sent to are probably going to be monitored by various people but I don't expect there to be any other major update

Although if you were a really malicious attacker maybe this is exactly what you would do Engineer a scenario so people get suspicious and blame the victim Not only would the attacker be causing financial loss but also reputational damage and emotional stress for the victim
